ZZ TOP CANCELS LOS ANGELES CONCERT JUST HOURS BEFORE THEY WERE SET TO TAKE STAGE

Legendary rock group ZZ Top canceled their Los Angeles concert at the iconic Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday just hours before they were set to take the stage. 

In a statement issued on the band's official Instagram account the musicians explained that 'the ZZ Top tour has unforeseen personnel matters that have forced the band to cancel its appearance at the Los Angeles landmark.'

The statement also contained a comment from frontman Billy Gibbons, who said: 'Insurmountable obstacles require canceling our Hollywood Bowl performance.'

'Friends, fans and followers of ZZ Top are the best in the business and the band is counting on everyone to bear with us for this brief interruption.'

The statement also assured fans that they will be refunded for their tickets as well as transportation and parking passes. 

ZZ Top is currently comprised of guitarist Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and bassist Elwood Francis. Francis joined the band after Dusty Hill died in 2021 at age 72. 

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for ZZ Top for comment. 

The rock band Cheap Trick - who have been sharing some tour dates with ZZ Top -were also set to perform at the Bowl.

But on Wednesday, their website announced that instead they will be playing 'a very special, intimate show at The Troubadour' in West Hollywood. 

Fans shared their support in the comments of ZZ Top's Instagram post, with one writing, 'I hope everything is OK in ZZ Top world.'

'We will be there when you return!' someone else added.

'So many older rock stars are canceling,' another fan wrote.

ZZ Top's next scheduled show is on August 7 at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno, California. Cheap Trick are set to play The Mountain Winery, Saratoga, California, the night after.

Last year ZZ Top drummer Beard was urged to retire by fans after he pulled out of the band's tour due to a health issue.

Beard, 77, who has been in the iconic band since 1969, was replaced by John Douglas on the Elevation Tour, which began March 2 and ran until August 2025.

A statement from the band's management, Shelter Music Group, announced that Beard 'temporarily stepped away from the current tour to attend a health issue requiring his focus in the near term.'

'Beard, along with fellow ZZ Top members Billy F Gibbons and Elwood Francis, presently on the Elevation tour since March 5, have engaged fellow Texan and longtime tech member, percussionist and drummer, John Douglas, for the interim.'

The post added that Douglas 'has maintained a close relationship with Beard and the bandmates' and previously replaced Beard in a Paris performance in 2002 when the drummer had an emergency appendectomy.

The statement concluded: 'He is looking forward to a speedy recovery.'

Fans quickly took to social media to beg Beard and the band to retire, with one writing: 'Just stop already. Retire.'

Others wrote: 'At some point All 3 members will “step away “ But they will still tour?'

'Goddamn, Billy. Retire the band in grace.'

Others sent well wishes for Beard's swift recovery and sent 'healing prayers' for the musician.'

In 2021, Hill, one of the founding members of the legendary 1970s rock group died aged 72.

He was the lead bass player and secondary lead vocalist for the super group which has the hit song Legs.

They became popular in the 1970s and did very well in the 1980s. Their signature was very long beards on two of the band members, Hill and Gibbons.

ZZ Top released Tres Hombres in 1973, which reached the No. 8 position on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Their top hits from that were La Grange and Jesus Just Left Chicago.

On their album Eliminator, they had the massive hits Gimme All Your Lovin' and Sharp Dressed Man as well as Legs.

ZZ Top's discography spans 15 albums, several of which won awards.

In 2004, ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
